yes, ffa might be exactly such a place, as it's very panfannish and there should be a lot of fans interested. i've only seen a tiny corner of lotr fandom, but as far as i know the whole light/dark divide never happened; and the roleplaying aspect of english-speaking lotr fandom is more or less firmly divided from fic-writing one; and i've never actually run into the whole... you know, societal aspect as it was in russian-speaking fandom, with true names and quentas and eglador and so on. it'll be very interesting to see how your ffa thread plays out :)
rec! sarah rees brennan's demon's noun series. it's urban fantasy by an irish author (who's One Of Us, and one of a few fan-origin authors who actually grows and improves as an author as she goes), about two brothers against the rather unfriendly world, and one is a compulsively lying martyr and other is... well, that's a secret, but a pretty transparent one. i loved these books, they're rough in places but engaging and clever and kind, and in sequels she moves onto lady povs and just - grows.
