Несколько случайных аллюзий (English). "Метрополис" я выцепил сам, "Фосс" явно тоже повлиял на стиль, а вот "Фернандо" АBBА - не углядел, а это интересно, как противопоставление эстетики, так и то, что в "Фернандо" возлюбленный - борец за свободу, а в "Алехандро" - угнетатель.

На первый взгляд видео противопоставлено тексту, где женщина пытается освободиться от власти мужчины, который ей "совсем как отец" и "должен погасить в ней огонь, должен выбить дурь". В видео героиня находится в положении сексуальной и административной власти. Я эту мысль додумать не успел, как мне попался коммент yeahisaidit, где она говорит, что героиня пытается стать своей в традиционно male-only мирах, игнорирующих женскую сексуальность: армия, гомосексуальное сообщество, католическая религия (это мне кажется натянутым, но в концепцию "male-dominant worlds stereotype" укладывается). Героиня пририсовывает себе пенис, маскирует бюст тканью, сливающейся по тону с кожей, надевает брюки (действительно, до сих пор не видел Леди Гагу в брюках) и так далее. Тем не менее, ни одеяние монахини, ни лифчик со встроенными автоматами Калашникова не спасают ее от насилия.

С одной стороны, все насилие в клипе носит сексуальный характер, но с другой, мне видится, что женщина пытается и не может освободиться от своих собственных сексуальных стереотипов. Она, кажется, ищет убежища у male homosexuals, в смерти, в армии и в церкви, однако эти и другие попытки саботированы и ею самой, и окружающими. Клип перекликается и с "Папарацци", и с "Плохим романом", но в "Алехандро" тема освобождения намного шире.

Thank you for that link - very interesting and of course much deeper than I could ever hope to write. Actually, I wanted to say quite a lot about the heroine finding refuge and - don't know how to say it, "love if not sex although depicted through sex"? - with gay men, but it came out very garbled. "Gay hag" was being whispered evilly in the back of my mind until I was scared incoherent.

However, I distinctly see violence offered to the heroine in the last part of the video - despite what Lady Gaga says herself about the video being a tribute to her gay friendships.

I love this about Lady Gaga - her work provokes thoughts, and I don't think this happens by itself. I don't remember last time I found a song video so engrossing.

The author is very astute about Gaga's sexuality and the lack of certainty thereof - she (LG) comes across more as an alien observer than a participant, she is very, very meta - and that sends thrills straight to my jaded postmodernist senses.

I keep intending to start reading Fatshionista - do you know if they have an LJ feed?
