С помощью юзера egelantier был проведен эксперимент: я прочел фанфик, не будучи знакомым с оригиналом. "То есть абсолютно" (c). Вердикт: вполне самостоятельный текст, никакого затруднения при чтении не было, характеры и предыстория героев, мир - все описано в самом тексте (мир, правда, несколько прозрачен и невеществен, однако степень проработанности не так уж отличается от некоторых текстов, относящихся к литературе).

Фанфик принадлежит к очень популярной разновидности hurt/comfort, т.е. "боль/утешение". Основой сюжета является утешение (в крайних случаях возрождение к жизни) одним персонажем другого, которому пришлось пережить нечто ужасное. И причина происшедшего, и причины, по которым герою приходится выступить "утешителем" - все объяснено и показано; вопросы если и возникают, то скорее типа "как в этом мире образовалась такая экономическая и социальная система", чем "с чего это он/они так переезжаются".

Это был престиж. Та-да! Fair Market Value by ArsenicJade, for the Ryan Ross fandom. Этот вид фанфика почти не сравнительно мало (corrected - TT) представлен в русскоязычном интернете. Фанфик, написанный про певцов и музыкантов - не про героев кинофильмов. То есть текста-канона нет. А фанфик есть.

Все это к вопросу о социальной природе фанфика. Как ни странно, отсутствие текста-канона только подчеркивает эту сторону феномена. Фанфик пишется уже не для полемики с оригиналом, не для разрешения конфликта более приемлемым способом, короче, не как критический комментарий. Однако парадоксально политическая нотка звучит сильнее, чем в случае, когда, например, герой делается борцом за права гомосексуалов или женщин. Дело даже не в том, что фанфик наглядно показывает ужасы рабства. Он говорит о том, о чем говорить не уместно; он удовлетворяет те потребности, в которых не принято признаваться. А фэндом оказывается той средой, где это возможно делать открыто и где обсуждать такие потребности и переживания уместно и принято.

sidenotes are usually the best thing there is :) thank you - i am just starting the journey.

however, by eyeballing it - many more are aware of the existence of a narrative-based fanfic than other types. and the numbers are staggeringly different.

i did not mean that the non-narrative based fanfic does not exist in russian-speaking fandoms, merely that it is so much more insular and unknown to the wide public - see the post by redtigra and what was recommended to her by her friends. most if not all was about fics based on a book, a movie or another type of narrative.

hah, i'm pretty sure harry potter single-handedly skeeves all book-based fandom numbers even. idk about russian fandom, but generally rps fandom in general and bandom in particular are (while sometimes being a bit of fandom's redheaded stepchild, due to people being uncomfortable about them) pretty big and dynamic, mostly because you never run out of canon. something new is always happening, dynamics always shift, they need to be explored, approved, denied, fixed, etc. etc. i'm pretty interested in that since i was always wary of rps and yet it ended up being my one and only active-involvement, long-term fandom, for many factors, and this flexibility and potential is one of them.

(sometimes it breaks your heart, too, in a way narrative-based ones don't quite manage).

an, oh! if you're accepting links for fun and profit, you can't miss and some you do for. i'm not even commenting on it, it's basically iconing. and highly enjoyable :)

yes, i can see how rps fics can be very satisfying for all the reasons you list. my daughter (the older one) thinks it is time to intervent and cure me of this unseemly obsession with fanfiction :) though she is rather proud of such a geeky parent.

ahahahahahaha yes, be careful! it's all academical interest that, quirky research this, and then you end up chatficcing arranged marriage stories about bandboys in your free time. i, for one, intended only to read arsenicjade's harlequin story to lose some time, and look where it gotten me :D
