This Case Is Gonna Kill Me by Phillipa Bornikova

Неплохой паранормальный детектив, общество неплохо приспособилось к новости о том, что вампиры, оборотни и эльфы существуют, и живет дальше (вампиры и оборотни - один с хомосапиенсом вид, а эльфы - другой, и живут в параллельной реальности). ГГ - новая сотрудница адвокатской фирмы, ей подсовывают самые случные и трудные дела, но она с ними справляется, попутно подружившись с эльфом (духовным наследником Таниса) и отомстив вампиру-юбочнику; и еще ей удается уцелеть после трех нападений оборотней, что само по себе тянет на "не верю", но в контексте вполне ничего себе так. Заделок на продолжение как минимум три: откуда у героини такое везение, поцему ампиры и оборотни никогда не инициируют женщин, и что будет с эльфом, которого похитили его родственники, чтобы со вкусом отомстить за пренебрежение к более традиционным способам знакомства.

speaking of paranormal detectives, did you read aaronovich's 'rivers of london'? because if not, i'm ready to launch into enthusiastic (if not quite invited ^^') rec :)

no, i did not. i looked in our library today, and that book is not for check-out - reference-only. but i ordered the next(?) two books: Moon Over Soho and Midnight Riot.

midnight riot and moon over are first two books in series (which is 'rivers of london', i should've clarified), and the next is 'whispers under ground'. after that it's in process.

i don't do a lot of paranormal mysteries, but that one was just lovely - with the choice of character, with the language, with the sweet, sweet police bureaucracy regarding magic, and certain dry wit, and the... pervasing kindness, of sort, in writing and in the pov. i wonder how you'll like peter :)

i see - The Rivers of London is the first in the Rivers of London series, but it is a UK title, in US it is Midnight Riot. thank you for the rec - i do like paranormal mysteries.
